These Antarctic Photo Tours are being offered by One Ocean Expeditions! Antarctic Photography Tours 2012 I'm very excited to be returning to Antarctica on board the Russian research ship,Akademik Ioffe. This was the ship I traveled on during my first voyage to Antarctica and is one of the best vessels in its class for polar travel of this nature. Have you ever wondered what it really takes to capture some of the images you've seen on the walls in my gallery? Here's your chance to not only explore the incredible scenery and experience the amazing wildlife of Antarctica, but to do so with me as your personal photography instructor and guide. Having made several voyages to photograph this remote part of the globe, I have the knowledge and skills required to make this an unforgettable opportunity for you to learn how to capture the best photos possible in this once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Knowing and having worked with the wonderful, knowledgeable staff of One Ocean Expeditions over the past years will help to ensure every possible photo opportunity is made available, pointed out and taken advantage of during your Antarctic voyage. Each day during the expedition you'll have
the opportunity to ask me photography questions, be it during formal
presentations, while we're out on deck, zodiac cruising the iceberg
fields, or on one of the many shore excursions. Along with
covering some of the basics of photography I will be discussing
how to get the best shots of local wildlife, how to prepare,
both yourself and your equipment, for the conditions you'll encounter,
and I'll be available to review your work as requested during
the voyage. Towards the finals days of your adventure, I'll concentrate
on digital photo editing so you'll have a better understanding
of when to use the "delete" button and how to best process your
final collection of images.
Six years ago I made my first trip "South" after
reading about Sir Ernest Shackleton and the Endurance expedition
of 1914. Seeing the incredible images the expedition photographer
Frank Hurley created
under very harsh conditions from this part of the world, convinced
me I had to go. It truly was a life changing experience, both
personally and in my career. I can promise you, visiting Antarctica
will be an experience and education far beyond anything you might
have imagined, and I look forward to helping you capture the adventure
with your camera.

You may feel, as we do, that if you make the journey to the bottom of the world you may as well stay awhile. On this far-reaching expedition to the islands of the South Atlantic Ocean and the Antarctic mainland, you will revel in 18 eye-popping days of exploration. Busybody penguins in rookeries by the thousands, behemoth icebergs reflecting startling greens and blues, humpback whales feeding on krill and of course the continent-sized sweeping ice sheet of Antarctica.
Day By Day Expedition Itinerary
Day 2 / At Sea
Our first penguin sightings will be on the island of West Point
with its bustling rookeries of rockhoppers. On Carcass Island,
we will observe nesting Magellanic penguins along with oystercatchers,
geese and the flightless steamer duck who is a permanent Falkland
resident. The next day we will make a stop in Stanley, the capital
of the Falkland Islands. As we wander through the charming streets
of brightly painted houses, we will learn how this quiet harbour
was once a major port in the 19th century for ships attempting
to round the formidable waters of Cape Horn. We will also make
a stop in Stanley's famed philatelic museum with its impressive
collection of historic stamps.
That is not the only wildlife on display. Fur seals can be seen poking their heads above the water, skuas and giant petrels swoop in the skies above, and the albatross our constant companion is never far away. We hope to explore an old whaling station at Grytviken (Greet-vik-in) and visit the grave of the most famous Antarctic explorer, Sir Ernest Shackleton.
The scenery here from the colossal
icebergs to the seemingly endless Antarctic ice sheet is truly
breathtaking. Weather permitting, we hope to undertake a shore
excursion and set foot on the White Continent itself.

"Hi David! Thank you SO much for taking me out on your tour this morning! Although my pictures are by no means close to yours, they have improved tremendously! I really love how some of them turned out. I just wanted to thank you for everything you have done for me on this vacation. You made my vacation. I know I still have a long way to go, but I’m excited about the journey of learning more! I have you to thank for that." Pamela Powell, Chicago Dear David,
